Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing or periods of shallow breathing during sleep. Each pause can last for a few seconds to several minutes and they happen many times in the night.

Many people that suffer from sleep apnea do not know that they have the problem until someone tells them. Some symptoms of this disorder can include headaches or sore throat when waking up, low energy during the day, forgetfulness or restless sleep/insomnia

One type of sleep apnea, central sleep apnea, occurs when your brain doesn’t send proper signals to the muscles that control breathing. This means you make no effort to breath for a short period of time. You may awaken with shortness of breath or have a difficult time getting to sleep or staying asleep.

There are a number of different treatment options offered for sleep apnea, however, one that is gaining more popularity is chiropractic care. Abnormal spinal position in the neck causes an increase in brain activity in the stress centers of the brain. If your neurology is compromised from the inside – respiration is going to be affected.
